Teacher

Melanie Schiemer is a native of Las Vegas and began her musical education and career there. She studied and competed in Las Vegas until 1996 when Schiemer was awarded a full fellowship to the National Symphony Orchestra Institute in Washington, D.C. After graduating early from the Las Vegas Academy in 1997, Schiemer continued her music training by attending the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In the summer of 1999, Schiemer was made a member of the Amadeus Chamber Symphony in London and toured with the group for the 1999 season. During the same year, Schiemer became a member of the Las Vegas Philharmonic and now holds a tenure position in the orchestra. Schiemer has furthered her performing career as a freelance musician. She has performed and/or recorded with such artists as Palcido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Andrea Bocelli, Vanessa Williams, Stevie Wonder, Cee Loo Green, John Mayer, Pen and Teller, The Eagles, Imagine Dragons, and Journey. Schiemer continues to perform in Las Vegas and has been a part of productions such as The Producers and Steve Wynn’s Showstoppers. Soon after joining the Philharmonic, Schiemer began her Suzuki Teacher Training. She has completed training units ECC! through level 5 as well as several enrichment courses. Schiemer is continuing her training by further enrolling in Suzuki Training Certification courses as well as studying child psychology and early childhood development. While Melanie is a dedicated and active member of the performing arts community, she focuses much of her efforts on the next generation of performing artists. Melanie Schiemer participated in the creation and implementation of successful Suzuki programs at both Sunrise Acres Elementary and The Meadows School. She then went on to create Schiemer Studios, which is a private Suzuki violin and Musikgarten studio for children from birth to 18 years of age. In addition to her performing and teaching, Schiemer co-founded Nevada’s first and only Suzuki Association of the Americas sanctioned summer institute, the Desert Suzuki Institute in 2010 and was a director there for 5 years. Currently, Schemer is enjoying her tenuered position with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, performing as a freelance musician, and serving on the board of the Esperanza Orchestra in Park City. When Schiemer is not teaching or performing, she serves at her church and on several volunteer committees that help support the Las Vegas and Kamas community, where she now lives. She also enjoys supporting her two children and their respective performance careers, spending time with her husband and family, traveling, and extreme off-road rock crawling in her favorite toy…her Jeep!
